Oct 22, 2014

Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan and Councillor Stephen Keary have welcomed the news that last Friday the former Anderson Ireland plant in Rathkeale has been taken into ownership by Innovate Limerick which is a new venture attached to Limerick City and County Council. Innovate Limerick is responsible for providing a supportive environment that will facilitate and encourage higher levels of innovation across the various stakeholders and sectors in Limerick.

It is expected that the site will be used as an enterprise centre for local companies seeking to create jobs in the town and will be similar to the other enterprise centres already set up in the county. Both Patrick O’Donovan and local County Councillor Stephen Keary have said that they are delighted with the news that the former Andersen Plant in Rathkeale has now finally been secured for the local community for the purpose of creating jobs in Rathkeale.

Both Patrick and Stephen were part of group made up of the Rathkeale Community Council, Brian McEnery, Limerick City and County Council and Innovate Limerick that was established after the closure of Andersen Ireland to look at ways in which the former plant could be secured for the local community.

“Back in mid-September our plan for the site was accepted by the property owners and the news that this was been finalised last Friday with Innovate Limerick taking ownership of the plant and both Stephen and Patrick agree that this was a hugely important day for the town of Rathkeale and surrounding areas and said that they were delighted to be part of a small dedicated group who worked tirelessly to deliver it.”
