Patrick O’Donovan, Limerick County TD, has welcomed the announcement of €200,000 for a riverside amenity area on River Loobagh in Kilmallock, and an upgrade of the walking trail.
The funding was announced in December 2022 as part of the ‘Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors’ strategy.
The River Loobagh has featured in the Ballyhoura Walking Festival’s schedule as recently as October 2022, and Ballyhoura Development have undertaken a Giant Hogweed Eradication Project in the area with the Limerick Council.
Previously the government‘s investment in the West Wall Walkway and the Footbridge in Kilmallock through which the River Loobagh runs amounted to almost €900,000.
The most recent announcement shows the Government’s commitment to investing in outdoor amenities in rural Ireland.
“I will continue to work with Government to ensure County Limerick gets the maximum funding available,” Minister O’Donovan said.
Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors is about building the strategic development of Ireland’s Outdoor Recreation sector so we can deliver maximum benefits to communities across the country
