Earlier this week I made a submission to Limerick County Council in relation to the Newcastle West Local Area Plan. I am opposed to the idea of putting a road beside or through the Demesne. I have suggested that the plan include measures to protect the Demesne for the future. The following is the text of my submission:

Re: Newcastle West Local Area Plan.
A Chara,
I wish to make a submission to the proposed adoption of the Newcastle West Local Area Plan.
I would like to voice my opposition to the proposed inclusion in the plan of a proposal to include a route for a road adjacent to the Castle Demesne. As a native and resident of Newcastle West and as someone who regularly enjoys the amenity that is the Castle Demesne, I believe that any proposed development of a roadway so close to what is one of the finest urban parks in the State, would be absolutely detrimental to the amenity and to the long term future of the Demesne and would destroy the tranquil nature of the Demesne which makes it so attractive to so many people from Newcastle West and surrounding areas. I would respectfully suggest to the Elected Members, that they might consider inserting a section into the Development Plan to deal specifically with the need to protect into the future the Castle Demesne, its unique characteristics, its biodiversity and heritage.
Since the draft proposals were put on public display I have received numerous representations from constituents, who like myself are very concerned with this proposal of the Manager. As a former member of Limerick County Council I believe that it is hugely important that the proposal to include this suggested roadway is removed from the draft so as to remove any doubt about the future of the Castle Demesne and that a new draft be placed on public display.
I would appreciate if you could acknowledge receipt of my submission.
