Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan said that visit of Minister Brian Hayes TD to Foynes to discuss the recent flooding there was important and positive. the meeting was attended by representatives of the local community in Foynes, Limerick County Council, the OPW, Shannon Foynes Port Company and Public Representatives.

Speaking after the meeting, which he organised, Patrick O’Donovan said that it was clear that both the Shannon Foynes Port Company and Limerick County Council had already carried out significant works in the area to try to prevent future flooding, and he welcomed the fact that the Office of Public Works had committed to working with the other agencies in the drawing up of a plan for Foynes.

At the meeting the Minister was told by local community representatives that the January flood had caused huge problems in the community in Foynes and that there was a need for all of the State bodies to work together to try to help those affected and to try to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

Patrick O’Donovan said that it was important now that the channels of communication remained open and he asked the State Agencies to ensure that the local community would be kept updated on any developments. He said that he intends to keep in contact with Minister Brian Hayes, the OPW, Limerick County Council and the Shannon Foynes Port Company on behalf of those affected.
