O’Donovan seeks meetings on proposed Adare bypass

Oct 19, 2012

The decision of An An Bord Pleanála to refuse planning permission for the proposed 8.5km Adare Bypass scheme needs to be examined as a matter of urgency according to local TD Patrick O’Donovan.

On foot of the announcement, Patrick O’ Donovan TD has requested a meeting with the Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar and the National Roads Authority at the earliest opportunity to discuss the implications of the decision.

“I will be asking the NRA to engage with Limerick County Council and the other relevant bodies, to begin the process of selecting a route, which can be delivered. Over a year has been lost while waiting for the decision of An Bord Pleanala on this issue. I was only recently was in contact with the An Bord Pleanala to emphasise the effect that having to wait on a decision has had on local landowners who wish to apply for planning permission. Much of the land in the close vicinity of the proposed site was sterilised for planning permission, and today’s decision has created even more uncertainty”.

“I believe that the process of selecting a route to bypass Adare must be looked at in conjunction with the other towns on the N21 including, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale and I will be making that point to the Minister and the NRA when I meet with them.”
