Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed an allocation of €257,000 to Limerick City and County Council by Minister Jimmy Deenihan TD under the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme.

The scheme has been designed by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to provide funds for small scale labour intensive work on protected structures, of which there are 2,030 in Limerick. Grants of between €2,500 and €15,000 can be applied for up until the 14th of February, with a requirement that anyone who applies must be able to show that they have matching funds.

Patrick O’Donovan said that this was good news and added that the money would go directly into the funding of works on buildings which require specialised techniques to protect buildings of historical and architectural significance.

Further information is available on the department’s website www.ahg.gov.ie and Patrick O’Donovan has encouraged people who are interested to log onto the website or alternatively to contact Limerick City and County Council who will have more detailed information on the application process.
