Fine Gael TD for Limerick, Patrick O’Donovan has today (Tuesday) welcomed the news that An Taisce has decided to withdraw its objection against the development of a smokeless fuels manufacturing plant by CPL Fuels Ireland in Foynes.
“I am delighted that An Taisce have seen sense and decided to withdraw its objection to the plant. I have been working closely with CPL Ireland on this project for quite some time now and since An Taisce lodged its objection I have being raising the general issue of third part objections at both the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications and in the Dáil.”
“Along with CPL I made a submission to An Bord Pleannála regarding the objection and I spelt out to them that CPL application had a significant social and economic dimension for Foynes and the West Limerick area. I also pointed out that the development is in line with Government Policy. I am happy that common sense has prevailed here and that they have done the right thing for the local community, who support the project.”
“CPL is to invest €22 million to construct of a new smokeless fuel depot to meet the expected increase in future demand for smokeless fuels. The plant will employ approximately over 140 people when fully operational, and a further 150 people will be employed in the construction of this new facility.”
