Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan has today welcomed the news that Askeaton Civic Trust is to receive €10,000 from the Arts Council of Ireland under its festival and events scheme. The Trust will receive the money for the annual residency program “Welcome to the Neighbourhood” which has been taking place since 2006.

“I am delighted with the announcement that the Arts Council of Ireland is to provide €10,000 for the Welcome to the Neighbourhood festival in Askeaton. This funding will go a long way in supporting the great work that is being done on the ground by the Askeaton Contemporary Arts Commission in promoting this festival and making it a key date on the summer cultural calendar in Limerick”.

“There is no doubting that a festival like ‘Welcome to the Neighbourhood’ provides an important economic stimulus to the town of Askeaton and the surrounding areas. The festival has benefits for both local businesses and local tourism”.

This funding forms part of €2.1m which is being used to support to over 40 festivals scheduled to take place all over Ireland this summer and early autumn.
