Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has this evening welcomed confirmation from the Minister of State at the Office of Public Works (OPW), Simon Harris TD, that he has allocated €30,000 to Limerick City & County Council, towards the cost of preparing a design to alleviate flooding in Askeaton.

Welcoming the announcement local Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan said that this is the first step in what I hope will be a commitment from the OPW to resolving the flooding issue in Askeaton.

“I have spoken to Minister Simon Harris on a number of occasions on the need for work to be carried out in Askeaton and I am delighted that he has made this allocation of €30,000 to Limerick City & County Council following my ongoing representations.”

Patrick O’Donovan said he hoped that Limerick City& County Council will be able to use the allocation as soon as possible and that a more detailed design would be presented to OPW for approval.

He committed himself to continuing to seek funding from the OPW for flood relief measures for communities across Limerick “Flooding continues to be one of the biggest issues facing many of our towns and villages, and while resources are scare I will use my position as a Government TD to try to get maximum amount for places like Askeaton.”
