Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed the allocation of €90,000 for Limerick under the Area Enhancement Scheme. The allocation is part of €2.975 million that the Minister for Environment, Community, and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan T.D., has made available to local authorities for a dedicated Public Area Enhancement scheme for the busy summer tourist season.
“This additional, once-off fund is being provided to support the Limerick City and County Council efforts to prepare and maintain their public areas in an effort to maximise the economic benefits that can flow from increased visitors. The funding will assist the Council and local communities in building on from the success of the Gathering in 2013.
The funding can be used to provide additional support for community groups involved in the Tidy Towns competition, improvement works to public parks and recreational walking areas, cleaning and tidying of older graveyards or the cleaning and making safe of derelict buildings. I would be calling on the Limerick City and County Council to ensure that where possible that it should undertake the work in co-operation with the community-based groups to maximise the benefit of the scheme.
