O’Donovan welcomes funding of €257,000 for Limerick Projects under the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme

Mar 31, 2014

Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed €257,000 in funding for 37 projects across Limerick on protected buildings and historic structures. The funding is being made available through the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht’s Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014.

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan TD will today announce funding for 618 projects at protected buildings and historic structures across the State. These projects will allow for a range of important conservation works to take place at protected buildings in all parts of Ireland, and will generate and support significant employment in the conservation and construction industries and in specialist trades.

Twenty seven projects in the County will benefit from the scheme amounting to €171,000 in funding while the City will benefit to the tune of €86,000 for 10 projects. I welcome the announcement this morning as some of these buildings are a vital part of our villages and towns across the county.

It is important to recognise the importance of our heritage buildings many of which are also homes, businesses and places where communities gather together and to protect these for future generations. This scheme will provide real benefits in the form of job creation and to the construction, conservation and tourism sector.
