Local TD and Minister for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has today (29th April 2024) welcomed the announcement of funding of €680,805 to benefit rural towns and villages.
Funding is being allocated to deliver projects right across County Limerick. The successful projects include the regeneration of derelict buildings, the provision of public plazas in town centres and the development of Town Parks and works to Community Centres.
In County Limerick:
• Garrienderk receive €250,000 for the renovation and refurbishment of derelict property in the village centre into a community centre and meeting space.
• Kilcornan receive €223,805 for the development of accessible community walking trails with lighting, railings, benches, bollards, and a ball sports wall at kilcornan community fields.
• Rathkeale receive €207,000 for facilities upgrade of key community buildings in Rathkeale including internal works to the community centre and building roof repairs to local youth spaces.
The investment is being provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres, which is a key objective of the Our Rural Future and Town Centre First Policies.
I have worked closely with my colleague in Government, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, who continues to be a great friend to Limerick.
Minister O’Donovan concluded by saying,
“This is Our Rural Future in action, delivering at local level and making a real difference in our rural towns and villages”
