O’Donovan welcomes jobs announcement for Limerick

Apr 1, 2014

Fine Gael TD for Limerick, Patrick O’Donovan has this morning welcomed the news that 50 new high end technology based positions will be created over the 3 years by US software company KEMP Technologies at its EMEA HQ in Limerick, bringing its current Irish workforce to 80.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD this morning and the investment is supported by the his Department through IDA Ireland.

“This is yet another huge vote of confidence by a company in Limerick and the Mid-West. The announcement will, I believe, provide fantastic opportunities for people from Limerick and the Mid-West region to gain employment and it is also a hugely important announcement for the third level institutions in Limerick including UL and LIT.”

“I understand that so far KEMP has hired 90% of their work experience students from the surrounding third level colleges due to their employability readiness, under the government’s Action Plan for Jobs the ICT sector has been targeted to deliver substantial job growth. The model being pursed in Limerick of recruiting young people from local third level institutes and from placement programmes is delivering on that aim.”

“In addition to those who will directly benefit from these new jobs, the local economy will also get a boost from this announcement.  I have no doubt that there will be significant spin-off benefits for other local businesses.”
