Fine Gael TD for Limerick Patrick O’Donovan has welcomed the confirmation that he has received this morning from the Minister for the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris TD that the OPW has informed Limerick City & County Council that it can proceed with the appointment of the contractor to the Foynes Flood Relief Scheme.
“I am delighted that Office of Public Works has now given approval for Limerick City and County Council to appoint a contractor to the project. This is evidence of the commitment that I received from the Minister previously of the OPW’s commitment to the flood relief scheme at Foynes and that the scheme is being progressed and is on track to be delivered.”
“I have worked very closely with Minister Simon Harris to ensure that the Foynes Flood Relief Scheme is prioritised. This has been looked for, for many years and the local community have been to the fore in pushing for the relief scheme, together with the Shannon Foynes Port Company who have already carried out some flood relief works in the area.”
“It is important to point out that as the Minister has stated, the funding is in place and the scheme is on track to be delivered within the original time frame.”
