O’Donovan welcomes significant jobs boost at Foynes Port

Jun 14, 2013

Fine Gael TD for Limerick, Patrick O’Donovan, has today (Friday) welcomed the announcement that 142 new jobs are being created at Foynes Port in Limerick, through the development of a manufacturing plant by CPL Fuels Ireland. The €20 million plant will service the domestic Irish solid fuel market. It is also hoped that the 18 month construction phase will create at least 150 construction jobs.

“This is a fantastic announcement for Foynes and for the entire county of Limerick. As well as creating 142 new full time, sustainable jobs, the development of the plant will also provide a welcome boost to the local construction sector during the building phase. This additional activity will also have a positive knock-on benefit for small businesses in the town.

“The decision by CPL Fuels Ireland to base this manufacturing plant in Foynes is a strong endorsement for Limerick county, and a clear indication that the area is an ideal location for investment. The company is the largest manufacturer of smokeless solid fuel in Europe, and it is a very positive development that a firm of this calibre has chosen to locate here.

“Limerick is in an excellent position to attract further investments like this one as we continue to get the economy back on track. Strategic infrastructure like our roads network, Foynes Port and Shannon Airport, and high quality educational institutions like the University of Limerick and Limerick IT means that the area has all of the elements required to attract job creators and investors. We need to ensure, given the establishment of the single authority for Limerick, that these positive factors are promoted and that all of the State agencies as well as those based locally in the region, work together to bring additional domestic and foreign investment to the area.

“Some 100 people will be employed at the new CPL plant, with another 42 people employed in sales, distribution and plant maintenance. It is particularly positive that these new jobs are being created in the

Green Economy, which has major capacity for growth. Job creation is the number one priority for me and for this Government, and I will continue to work with potential investors in order to attract further jobs to Limerick.”
