Local TD Patrick O’Donovan became the first Limerick politician to accept the Ice Bucket Challenge after former Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Mary Harty nominated him after her family, neighbours, carers and friends completed the challenge at her home in Nicker. Accepting the challenge from Mary, Patrick O’Donovan paid tribute to her bravery and courage in dealing with Motor Neurone Disease.
The challenge has been organised this summer across the world to raise money for research into Motor Neurone. The Limeick TD carried out the challenge on Friday afternoon in The Square, Newcastle West and afterwards nominated Donal O’Grady, Captain of the Limerick Senior Hurling Team, the organising committee of the Knights of WestFest, Newcastle West and Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney.
Afterwards Patrick O’Donovan asked people to text MND to 50300 to make a €2 donation to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association who offer supports and help to sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease and their families.
